European debt crisis – useful interactive chart

Short-term scenarios – get a view on the debt crisis in Europe

This is a short post to bring to your attention a useful interactive chart on the state of the debt crisis, and related data, in Europe. This has been published by the Economist and allows you to quickly compare key data such as unemployment rates, and GDP growth across the nations in Europe.

There are a range of conclusions to be drawn – depending on your perspective – but one close to home for me is that Spain is clearly vulnerable. I am not saying it is close to an imminent melt-down (as a few doom-sayers are saying) – but let us just be aware that the risk of debt problems in Spain is not insignificant. Spanish-based companies, or those with Spanish debtors, should at least have contingency plans in place to deal with a debt crisis.
